Welcome to Museum of the Mediterranean.

An experience involving the old and young, inviting you to savour the aromas of the Mediterranean, to listen to its sounds and music, to feel its history and enjoy a panoramic audiovisual that brings you closer to the Mediterranean of today. Let's go! The museum opens its doors to help you discover and get to know the human side of the Mediterranean, covering an area that includes the massif of Montgrí, the plain of the Baix Ter and the Illes Medes.

What's to see?

Permanent exhibition

The Museum provides a trip around the Mediterranean using a circuit of themed rooms, showing the landscape and nature of the Mediterranean as well as examples of its culture, with music as the common link between peoples.

Area 1. Reception. Visitors embark upon their discovery of the area through a large map of the Mediterranean with quotes that invite reflection.

Area 2. An open region, in contact with different peoples. The sounds of the sea, wind, rivers... This room presents the landscapes of Montgrí, Baix Ter and the Illes Medes. Visitors are introduced to the sounds of nature and how human sounds are added to them, ending with an example of the integration between the different peoples that go to make up the Mediterranean region of today.

Area 3. Music as a basis for communication. An area dedicated to the region's typical music, where Sardanes play a dominant role and visitors can interact by playing instruments and learn to tell them apart.

Area 4. Heirs to a Mediterranean culture. On a large map of the region visitors can see and play different Mediterranean instruments and note their similarities.

Area 5. The Mediterranean today. An open area designed for reflection and with an audiovisual that shows the many different aspects of the Mediterranean, its wars, pleasures, fears, hopes...

Temporary exhibition

Area 1. This area holds temporary exhibitions related to the Mediterranean and the region of Montgrí, Illes Medes and Baix Ter.

Area 2. This area holds the centre's contemporary art exhibitions. On exhibition are works by creators from the region and the Mediterranean, aiming to be a source of dialogue concerning the Mediterranean culture.
